Oh, To Be A Shapeshifter

Yesterday, as I walked through the city to the train station, I found myself looking at all these people around me thinking ‘wow I wish I looked like them’.

Both men and women alike, I was envious of the way they dressed and looked and even presented themselves, feeling some degree of the gender envy I explained in my last post.

I often also find myself exploring different paths in life, what like would be like if I was this, what life would be like if I did that. I think this is why I like the body-swap movie trope so much, especially the film ‘It’s a boy-girl thing’.

A quick explanation of the trope is: one of the main characters is in conflict with the other main character, they both make some sort of wish or remark and then wake up the next day having switched bodies. It is not particularly the fact they have swapped bodies, but the fact they have swapped genders just like that.

I have talked about this with one of my GNC friends recently, wanting the ability to swap to a different gender without the commitment of having to transition, a click on and off thing.

Like being able to shapeshift.

This is also why I enjoyed Noelle Stevenson’s She-ra so much, especially the character Double Trouble, as they are a non-binary shapeshifting mercenary and they have the ability to do just that, shapeshift.

Happy Exploring!
